Rich vs Wealthy

Rich vs Wealthy

Hello everyone. I am happy to see that one of my posts has reached 500 views. I feel it as a small achievement. 500 people going through something I wrote encourages me. I hope this same level of appreciation continues.

So, what am I writing about today? Yes. As the title says, RICH vs WEALTHY. I was talking to one of my friends lately and this small topic struck between us. I was thinking about the same and wanted to share it.

According to the Google dictionary, these are the meanings of the two words.

Rich : having a great deal of money or assets; wealthy.
Wealthy : having a great deal of money, resources, or assets; rich.

They both are synonymous. But are they?

In my opinion having money is being rich. But that need not imply that you are wealthy. What makes you wealthy? Money only plays a small role in deciding it. But immaterial things make you wealthy. Things like relationships, ethics, integrity etc. An abundance of these makes you wealthy. Anyone can earn money or even try to steal money. Earning meaningful relationships, earning respect with your principles and way of life, these things makes a man wealthy. Even a poor man can be wealthy. A person may be earning a considerable amount every month, he/she reaches home after a good day at work and has a loving and caring family and he/ she gets all the support from them is wealthy enough. A person who earns a huge amount and stays alone and lives a selfish life is not wealthy enough.

In the end, no one would remember how much money you have or how rich you are, but it does make a difference how wealthy you lived. The number of friends you earned, the principles you followed to live a peaceful life, the respect that you gave to fellow humans, the respect you had for mother nature. These are the things that live on even after we die.

Why is A.P.J.Abdul Kalam a famous man? He wasn't rich. He did not have an abundance of money. But he was wealthy. He had all the qualities that are idolized by many people around the world. That is the wealth he earned. My argument does not mean that the rich cannot be wealthy. They sure can. A small example that makes me feel sad. Many of them fly down to a different country to make a career. A career means making money as well. But many of them do not feel they are wealthy enough even though they earn 6 figure salaries.

Money does not mean anything when you are so far away from the loved ones.

Money does not mean anything when you feel sad and want a hug from your mother.

Money does not mean anything when you do not have a person to guide you or support you through your hard times.

We should never forget the ones that stood for us trying to run in a race for money.
