Up To Speed!

Imagine a school that has 4 classes of let's say grade 7. Now imagine if someone had asked you to analyze the performance of grade 7 of a particular school. The first metric that usually comes to mind is which particular class is performing well and which isn't. You may not want to report it, but it would definitely cross your mind. Now imagine the top performing class had 25 students. How would you rank these students? By the GPA? By the performance in sports? By the performance in some kind of an aptitude test?  The above was to just give a quick example of comparison. Throughout our life, we are compared to others. Even if your immediate family does not want such kind of an environment, they are tied down by society or the systems in place. The top-scoring students get admissions to good colleges, and students performing well are said to land a good jobs. It is a generalized statement, and I would stand corrected because the percentage of exceptions is minimal.  The w...

Too many ChOicEs?

Image
It has been quite some time since I have reverted back to this site to put my thoughts out. It is just that phase, just past quarter-life crises to be chic. Or is it? Not really. Choices. I did write a lot about this previously but what got me thinking was, are too many choices good or bad? To write out a post, my mind had to compete with all the other choices I had to pass the time. Netflix, a LOT of Youtube, games, books, and even CandyCrush. If my only choice was to write, this site would have been spammed with content like it did a few years ago.  How would life actually be, if every corner of it had only one road to take? Exciting? Boring? Easy? We are at a point in an age where we are inundated with choices everywhere we look. Everywhere we walk in, we have like a hundred different choices to make. There were many references to the choices of cereals in America before I had been there, and I never thought it was not such a huge thing to worry about. I was always used to...

Pain and Sculpture

Image
Pain and Sculpture Hello everyone. It has been a long time since I posted something on my blog. I  was seeking for motivation to write something. I have been through more than 50 documentaries during the past 2 months trying to find any kind of inspiration that I usually tend to.  I was watching a famous event for the automotive world called GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED. It is an annual event where different kinds of cars are showcased and run over a hill climb course. The cars date back as long as 1903 to the future autonomous race cars. While I was watching these cars go up the hill, there was this small Formula 3 car by Billy Monger. Looking at the car you wouldn't know what the story of this kid is unless you are into motorsports. Formula 1 had its fair bit of safety record after the death of the famous Ayrton Senna on the 1st of May 1994. Until 2014, there were no fatalities because of accidents on the track. In 2014 Jules Bianchi crashed into a crane that...

Shadows

Image
Shadows As a kid, if there was a power outage in my house, the whole household used to gather around one lit candle, and I remember playing with the candle flame and making different kinds of shapes with hands to see how the shadows are cast on a wall. I am sure every one of us might have done this in our childhood.  img source This was all fun until you had to study these phenomena in physics in high school. A shadow as defined scientifically is " a dark area or shape produced by a body coming in between rays of light and a surface". It is a simple everyday phenomenon that we observe.  A few days back, I was watching some comedy programme in which a guys shadow comes alive and gets him into trouble. It was a stupid comedy. But that got me thinking about shadows in a different way. It has been quite a while that I wrote something from my thoughts and this started feeling like something I could relate to things that happen to us in life.  The ...

Feelings

Image
Feelings!! I came across this question when I was going through Quora recently. How do I mask my depression so it does not effect my day-to-day life? And this got me thinking. Is this even a valid question? While I came across this question, I also happen to watch a video on FALSE POSITIVITY in one of the Ted talks. I will attach the link to the video at the end of this post. But the video talks about how we judge some of the emotions as bad. So I replied to the question above as follows,  Why do you want to mask something that is a natural feeling? Why does the world see anger, depression, unhappiness etc as all bad? Aren’t they with us from the time of birth? If you are feeling depressed. Be so. Why do you want to show something other than what you feel? Would you mask your hunger to stop affecting your day to day life? All these so called negative feelings are part of life. There maybe a day you stop being depressed. Let everything flow naturally. It isn’t a no...

KARMA!!

Image
DO YOU BELIEVE IN KARMA? Hello. I hope you found my previous review about one of my scale model interesting. I will update more reviews as and when I can get them in my hands on them and will include a plethora of photos.  Coming back to this post, Karma! We all often come across this word. It is originated from the Sanskrit word Karman, which translates to 'duty'. But what does it actually mean?  Karma : noun  in Hinduism and Buddhism the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences.   So do you believe in this karma? Everything we are today and will be in the future is affected by the state we were in or are currently in. We don't give a second thought to it as we assume such is life and it simply goes on.   Many a time, Karma is associated with the bad that happens in our lives. "Karma hits you back" is what we hear more often. Why is it that it is n...

How far is too far?

Image
How far is too far? When was the last time you had to prove a huge mathematical formula, maybe for one of your exams or assignments? While trying to prove it, did you ever give a thought to why you were proving something that has already been proved? Everybody would reply that it was for grades.  When was the last time you were trying to prove a point to a friend or a colleague while having one of those feisty arguments?  We often see in some of the Indian cinema, the main protagonist is challenged by the villain to prove that he loves the heroine and the hero turns out to risk his life to prove that he loves her. Ironically, the girl does fall for such a thing (wouldn't work in real life though, unless both of them are stupid enough to meet each other).  Hello everyone. Thank you for coming back again and again and rolling in the views.Happy new year to everyone. By the way, what is it that I am trying to prove with my statements above? I will get to...

At a Cross Road

Image
At a Cross Road Hello everyone. Another year is coming to an end, another year to look forward to. Time just flew by, as it always does. Everyone would ask at this time what our new year resolution would be? Why not just ask what were the moments you cherished or hated, who were the people you met for the first time and for the last time, what was that you started to like and started to hate and so on. Every day we come across at least one crossroad. But did you ever just sit near a crossroad and observe? You would always see people taking the roads without thinking so much. Because they know the destination, so involuntarily they know which road to take. But did you ever stop at a crossroad not knowing where to go and just waited there to decide? Try doing that in the middle of the day, and people behind you get impatient. They start honking and you are forced to take a road that you might not have intended to take. Was it your choice? Maybe. But you would have had ample time to...

Memories

Image
Memories Hello everyone. Thank you once again for staying tuned to my blog. Your views inspire me to write more and more. I am not a frequent traveller. But whenever I travel, my destination is always home. No matter how far you go, how far you live, your home city is always the best. No place is better than your home city. My home city, Hyderabad. I can travel here just to have chai all day. I always wanted to try out the new places that serve different types of tea.  I'm right now in a coffee shop that is called Chit Chat Chai, trying out their different teas. What else can be a good place to spend an afternoon to sit down and put down my thoughts.  When you are alone sipping some chai, sometimes memories run back to you. Maybe the place, maybe the food, maybe the ambience, maybe someone else beside you discussing something, maybe the bus you see outside the window that you used to travel in, all these can get back some sweet memories that ...

Some care for you?

Image
Some care for you? Hello everyone. Thank you once again for an overwhelming response to my last post. I am happy to say that it was the highest viewed post so far. I usually write something when I sit in front of my computer and rarely do I write while travelling except for one post I wrote almost a year ago. I am writing this one though while I’m flying.  Flying maybe routine to many people. For me, it’s more of a marvel that the human mind has created. It is more than sitting for long hours to travel. While I board a flight I observe more than what many people see. A small thought struck my mind when I was looking around today in the flight. I was observing how much attention one pays to the safety instructions given at the start of the flight. It isn’t shocking to see that less than 10% of them pay attention to it. Not that I do not pay attention to it, I always do, I even read the safety card on every flight. How many of us do that every single time? If you have flown...

Broken Boundaries

Image
Broken Boundaries Boundary: A line that marks the limits of an area; a dividing line Countries have boundaries. States have boundaries. Individual homes have boundaries.  Humans? Do we have any boundaries?  Yes. A line that separates us from the rest, is kind of a boundary. The line that our family draws for us is a boundary. A line that the society draws around you is a boundary. Economic status draws a huge boundary around you. Many of these aren't something you can change a lot but, the line one draws around themselves is totally under their control. This boundary one creates can actually change the ones that were once not in your control.  Comfort Zone This is the only boundary we draw around us. Emotionally, mentally and physically. A nation's boundary imparts a feeling of safety for the citizens. Similarly, we create the boundaries where we feel safe. We do not want to get out of the safety of our comfort zone. Is it a bad thin...

Rich vs Wealthy

Image
Rich vs Wealthy Hello everyone. I am happy to see that one of my posts has reached 500 views. I feel it as a small achievement. 500 people going through something I wrote encourages me. I hope this same level of appreciation continues.  So, what am I writing about today? Yes. As the title says, RICH vs WEALTHY . I was talking to one of my friends lately and this small topic struck between us. I was thinking about the same and wanted to share it.  According to the Google dictionary, these are the meanings of the two words. Rich  :  having a great deal of money or assets; wealthy. Wealthy  :   having a great deal of money, resources, or assets; rich.   They both are synonymous. But are they? In my opinion having money is being rich. But that need not imply that you are wealthy. What makes you wealthy? Money only plays a small role in deciding it. But immaterial things make you wealthy. Things like relationships, eth...

I spend a lot!!

Image
I Spend a Lot!! Hello to the people who take out their time to read my blog. Thank you btw for your time. I am happy that the contents of my blog have helped me out a bit. I am now encouraged to write more. Good thing, isn't it? Anyway, coming to this post. I spend a Lot!!!!  People who know a little about me know that I spend on things that actually aren't necessary. Unnecessary stuff like? I am a gadget freak and spend a bit too much on electronic gadgets. I got myself an Xbox which requires a TV to play, so I got one as well. In the past year, I spent like crazy on electronics. I got a cozmo, about which I wrote in an earlier post on this blog.  I got an artificial intelligence racing kit, that uses stuff and is like of a video game in reality. I got a few Bluetooth speakers as well and a projector. Which is completely unnecessary if you think about it. And the list goes on. I have many things that lie around that I do not use often.  And then there ...

Depressed? Maybe not!

Image
Depressed? Maybe not! Hello . I am back again with another post. Lately, I was asked by a friend if my writings were intended for others or were they just for myself. This got me thinking, why did I even start writing this blog! Maybe I wanted people to read my thoughts or maybe I just wanted those thoughts out of my mind.  I was thinking about this question I was asked and later I realised what my intentions for this blog were. I want people to read it . Is it wrong? Absolutely not. Then why am I writing? Maybe for a bit of appreciation or maybe to have the sense of not failing at something. It does happen. It does happen with everyone. At some point, everyone wants to win at something. Or if you phrase it differently, everyone does not want to fail at everything.  Let me share a small experience with you. I was really good and interested in athletics till my 8th standard. In my 8th standard, I was down with jaundice and I felt it had dra...
