KARMA!!

DO YOU BELIEVE IN KARMA?

Hello. I hope you found my previous review about one of my scale model interesting. I will update more reviews as and when I can get them in my hands on them and will include a plethora of photos.

Coming back to this post, Karma! We all often come across this word. It is originated from the Sanskrit word Karman, which translates to 'duty'. But what does it actually mean?

Karma : noun
in Hinduism and Buddhism the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences.

So do you believe in this karma? Everything we are today and will be in the future is affected by the state we were in or are currently in. We don't give a second thought to it as we assume such is life and it simply goes on.

Many a time, Karma is associated with the bad that happens in our lives. "Karma hits you back" is what we hear more often. Why is it that it is not associated with good?

Let me share a small story with you.

In the late 1980's, there was a manager of a bank working in one of the rural areas in India. Most of his work included looking after farmers' and agricultural loans. One day he came across a young man from one of the villages around. He was physically challenged but his aims and goals were above those who were not restrained. He wanted to pursue his dream of making a living for himself abroad, though he was from an economically poor background. His attempts at getting a loan for this endeavour were in vain many a times.

He approached the bank manager of our story to apply for a loan, to pursue his dreams. Now, without collateral, no bank can give any form of a loan that would help you in going abroad. The manager was a bit reluctant but wanted to see this young man achieve his dreams. So he made sure he got the young man's loan approved by making some recommendations to his higher officials.

At this point, you might be thinking how can this be karma to the manager?

Fast forward 25 years, he couldn't have been in the position he is in today. During one of his trips back home, he decided to meet the person without whom he could not have been in the position he is in now. The manager was delighted to see someone he had helped a long time ago come back to thank him. Manager, retired now, was facing his old age.

The young man was in touch with the manager even after he had gone to the US and used to inquire about the manager's health. But one day, when he called, the manager did not pick up his phone. He called his relatives to inquire about the manager's whereabouts and got to know that the manager was critically ill and was admitted to a hospital early morning on a Saturday.

The doctors said there were multiple blocks in his heart and that they had to perform a bypass surgery. We all expect to receive the best possible care when it comes to health issues and the manager's family was no different, but the hospital staff informed them that the particular surgeon does not come in on Sunday and recommended another doctor.

When he called, they told him the same. He then asked which surgeon they were talking about. And it turns out to be that the surgeon that they were talking about was his very own nephew. He immediately called the surgeon and told him to take care of the manager. Many of the hospital staff were amazed to see the doctor coming in on a Sunday to perform a surgery.

The old man now underwent the surgery and is in good health.

The manager could have just handled the loan application like everyone else, but he saw an aspirant and showed a small act of kindness and that turned out to be his life-saving karma 30 years later.

Even a small act of care today could save your life tomorrow.
Maybe it can shape up your child's future.
Maybe it can protect your family.
Maybe it can change your career.

Everything you do is KARMA. If you are having 3 healthy meals a day, it might be the karma of your ancestors. There will always be something about your present state that will affect the future.

I do believe that good deeds return to you in some form or the other. The small story had a huge impact on my life. I hope that after reading this, you also find a little inspiration/are inspired to do good to others who need it.

PS: The manager in the story is my very own grandpa
